Accessories: It’s always interesting seeing what up and coming local designers have to showcase as well as supporting new talent. The feather trend and leather wrap bracelets trend is still going strong, with many designers still showcasing these. A few other designers displayed something more unique: Love Tatum uses corals, briolettes, hand carved stones, semi-precious stones and pearls to create colorful unique, handmade pieces that express “something personal and individual”. Confection Jewels has been around since 2007, designing one of a kind, custom exclusives. Their vintage cocktail rings are made from rare buttons and gems to “represent a different story, culture and timeline” and their new line of unisex necklaces is equally edgy and unique but with a tougher feel. It feels special to know that your jewelry has a history and is one of a kind or limited edition. I love the delicacy of LouLou Bijoux’s pieces from the French designer Sandra Doquin’s ; the collection is so dainty and classic. Each piece is engraved with Brin D’amour which translates to “A piece of Love”; with the mission to be ‘simply chic and unique’. I’m coveting the large Gold Lotus Flower Necklace, so pretty.
Clothing: We’ve seen so much return to the 80’s, neon and retro looks over the last couple of years and MYVL are staying hot on this trend with oversized tanks and cropped shirts, tie-dye and stenciling. Her fun, unique line is inspired by “Fashion, art, music, and shiny disco balls. Where what you wear isn’t just who you are but what you believe in. Live life like it’s going out of style and dance like no one’s watching. But the party don’t start til I walk in.” Wearing her tees can’t help but bring a smile to your face and lil’ bit of attitude.
Made for Good is “a consortium of like-minded brands assembled into one global community, sharing common goals, purpose and passion.” The 6 brands each align with a non-profit partner and raise money through the sale of its branded products which are Jedidiah, Given, Beautiful feet, Musicars, United artist network and Raintees. Check out their websites yourself for statement making tees and conscientious shopping at its best. Rojas had some interesting cuts and patterns; combining volume with tailoring and conservative with sexy at affordable prices. There’s something for almost everyone since each collection is designed with three different types of people in mind the Designer, androgynous and Simplistic. Eva Franco had a gorgeous ladylike and often playful collection from both the current and last season with polka dots, lace, bows and cinched waists that flatter the female figure. The structure, tailoring and sizing is perfect. Lisa Michelle Collection by Lisa Felsenthal was equally feminine and flattering. Lisa uses the “finest European fabrics and trims…with meticulous detail to construction and finishing, both inside and out.” Her beaded and sequined headbands, cuffs and belts make glamorous, upscale yet youthful accessories whilst her dresses and tops are cut and draped to flow and flatter in the softest of fabrics such as silk jersey and silk charmeuse.
There was one active wear company; Phoenix Active wear with a wonderful, inspiring philosophy. “A phoenix is a paragon of beauty, strength, and passion; It’s a creature that’s as mythical as reaching the “end goal” of working out. It’s not about the ending… it’s about staying active because you love the rich life it offers you. At Phoenix Activewear we focus on building a lifestyle that builds foundation, hope, and strength through the community centered around our brand.” The line combines fit, quality and versatility which aligns with most people’s increasingly demanding day; running from one errand to the next. Gone are the days of frumpy sportswear that doesn’t breath, is unsupportive and loses elasticity. Phoenix is well priced, sexy, supportive and functional. I’m loving their feather weight Yoga bra with spaghetti straps with turquoise accents; just wearing it makes me want to work out.
The variety offered at the Thread show really showed designers creativity and you’d be hard pushed as a buyer not to find something since there were so many different styles on display. As a woman one of my fears is turning up to an event wearing the same thing as someone else. However, since a lot of pieces at Thread shows are one-off’s or small runs purchasing here helps solve that problem!
